LEM W781A #22 SS Big Bite – 1 HP Review

What’s Good

This is a 750 watts meat grinder which runs at a frequency of 60 Hz for the 120 volts motors. It operates at 1 HP, which makes it significantly better than the #8 and #5 LEM Big Bite Grinders. In practice, I did not feel like it ground meat much faster than the #12 LEM, although there is clearly a difference. It grinds about 13 lbs of meat in a minute. Being so powerfully built, this machine is meant for heavy use.

The meat tray is also quite large. It is even bigger than the #12 LEM grinder, and measures 15.5” by 11” by 3”. This will allow you to load more meat at a time and speed up the meat cutting process. This is especially important for this machine since it grinds meat so fast. I had a hard time keeping up with the speed of this grinder.

It is also amazing how the machine is able to grind large amounts of meat in a short while without getting clogged. This is all thanks to the Big Bite technology that is used in the development of Big Bite meat grinders. The running of the machine does not stop or even get interrupted in the second grind like I have experienced with many other meat grinders.

The whole thing is made of stainless steel. From its look, I could tell that it was a high-quality product, made with high precision. The only flaw in construction that I noticed was the stuffing tubes. They just look like they are made of low quality plastic.

This machine also has a meat pan hand guard for enhanced safety.

Being made of stainless steel, and with no coating whatsoever, this machine is also quite easy to clean. I still find it safer to clean it manually, which is also just a breeze with this machine. After cleaning, you should always spray it with food grade silicon spray.

The #22 Big Bite Grinder has an upgraded performance but still works very quietly. LEM can create very silent meat grinders by making their motors permanently lubricated, and with improved grease formulation. With this machine, you won’t experience that loud noise produced by running motors.

What’s Not So Good

This machine weighs 60lbs, making it significantly heavier than the #12 LEM meat grinder. It is constructed with a handle on the top which you can use to move it around. I personally can’t lift it and prefer to move it around in a roller cart. Being so big in size, you might also have a hard time finding a place to keep it permanently.

The machine comes with a safety guard which is supposed to make it safer to use the machine. However, this safety guard tends to be an obstruction when you load meat into the tray, and also requires some effort in cleaning. I considered removing it, but i could not figure out any way of doing that without damaging the machine.

For a meat grinder, it is quite expensive.

Conclusion

​This meat grinder really works like a beast. It has improved performance and can save you a lot of time in the kitchen. It even grinds chicken bones without slowing down. If you are a serious hunter with more deer to grind in a year than the #12 LEM machine can handle, then this machine is what you should consider buying.
